DIY UX Testing

This project came up because I wanted to test some prototypes on the field. The users I wanted to test with are working outside in a construction setting and only have a few mins to spare while working to help me out with testing so setting up a desktop computer in a controlled environment would not be possible. From previous experience I already knew that it would be difficult to film the users screen by hovering over their shoulder while they are using their mobile device, there's a lot of movement and it's not really possible to get up close.


I found a website that showed how to create a device to hold a camera and aim it at the user's mobile phone. I cut a piece of acrylic using a laser cutting machine and engraved the company logo on the bottom. I then used a heat gun to bend it into shape. I attached a go pro mount to the top and a phone holder that I got off a tripod mount.
